League Rules

Please remember, this is a Synagogue League Men's Club league for Synagogue Men's Club members, plus grandfathered players from previous years or with an immediate family connection to a Men's Club member. Recruiting outside players is not allowed and captains may challenge a player's eligibility and connection to the Synagogue for whom they are playing.  Disputes will be considered by an ad-hoc group of three captains whose teams are not involved in the incident. Suggested rule changes will be voted upon by all captains.

RULES

1. NEW - During the final five minutes of the game, teams have 30 seconds to shoot the ball or turn it over.

2. Bonus Points are awarded on sixth team foul in each half.

3. Ties in the standings will be broken by: 1) head to head results; 2) wins against common opponents; 3) strength of schedule;

4. Substitutions are only made on a change of possession.

5. A player holding the ball has five seconds to pass or dibble if challenged.

6. A foul on a player attempting a shot counts for a point, including continuation if the shot is successful.

7. One five minute overtime period will played if the score is tied at the end of regulation. The team foul count at the end of regulation will continue into the overtime period. If the game is tied at the end of the overtime period, each player on the floor will shoot one foul shoot. The team with the most foul shots made will be the winner.

8. Each player on a team is expected to play at least five minutes per half.

9. Each team will have a 5-10 minute warm-up period and a 6 minute half time period. Halves will be 22 minutes with a continuous clock. No time-outs except for injury.

10. The first games of the day will start by 8:40 am whether the ref has arrived or not.

11. If the start of any game is delayed beyond 10 minutes past of the official starting time, the halves will be reduced to 20 minutes each.

12. The team with the last game of the day, which also has the first game of the following week, will be responsible for collecting the flip score-boards from both gyms and the bringing them the following week.

13. All team members are responsible for bringing a white/light gray shirt, and the team color shirt, except teams with a unique color.

ADDITIONAL RULES FOR THE PLAYOFFS

1. The highest seeded team wears its colors, so teams 5 thru 12 should have white or light grey shirts and dark color shirts.

2. Teams May NOT share players in the play-offs.

3. 2 points will be awarded for fouls in the act of shooting a 3 pointer. If the shoot is successful it will count as 4 points. (suggested by the refs).

4. Play-in games will be 22 minutes, with a 3 minute overtime period if needed.
